Bro. Yorke was one of the Pillars on which Lodge Elgin was built and his fraternal generosity is amply illustrated within our Meeting Room. His kindred spirit will remain with us for years to come. He passed to GL Above on September 28, 2012
Bro. J. A. P. Phillips, JP:
Past Substitute District Grand Master, is generally regarded as the Founding Father of Lodge Elgin. He was initiated into Freemasonry in The Glenlyon Lodge # 346 SC, on 14/05/52, passed to the FC degree on 07/07/52 and raised to the sublime degree of MM on 10/09/52. Bro. Phillips relocated to Montego Bay in 1956 and became a member of The Harmony Lodge # 3603 EC then located in Lucea, as there were no Scottish Lodges in Montego Bay at that period in time. In 1959 he put together a team of founders and petitioned The Grand Lodge of Scotland for the formation of Lodge Elgin No 1562. He worked tirelessly to advance the Lodge over the next 30 years and many, if not all of its traditions result from his early teachings. Bro Phillips became the third Master of Lodge Elgin in the administrative year 1961-1962.
