Obituary: Past Masters of Lodge Elgin 1562 SC

Brother Albert Nathan Hall, Hon DSGW, PM

Brother Albert Nathan Hall, Hon DSGW, PM of Lodge Elgin #1562 SC, passed away on 5TH January, 2014. He was a dedicated Freemason and a true gentleman. Brother Nathan was initiated into Freemasonry and Lodge Elgin in particular on 6th June 1966, he was passed to the Fellow of Craft degree on October 5th, 1966 and was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on December 6, 1966.

He was advanced to the Mark Degree on June 6, 1967 and became the Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Elgin in 1972. His sense of duty to his Mother Lodge and his commitment to its administrative affairs resulted in him serving as the Secretary of the Lodge for 22 years, the longest serving Secretary in the history of the Lodge. Brother Nathan’s dedication to the Craft and his Mother Lodge led to him being conferred the Honorary Rank of District Senior Grand Warden by the District Grand Lodge of Jamaica, an Honour that he carried with dignity and distinction. He was later conferred with the Honorary Rank of Grand Standard Bearer by The Grand Lodge of Scotland.

His continued devotion to Freemasonry saw him gaining membership to the various other Chapters of Freemasonry. He was a member of the Elgin Royal Arch, the Columbus Rose Croix and was installed as the very first Most Wise Sovereign of the Elgin Rose Croix Chapter when that chapter was founded. He was a member of the Lodge and Council and The Preceptory all of which Chapters he served with the same commitment, which was his hallmark. For his devotion to Royal Arch Masonry Bro. Nathan was conferred the Honorary Rank of District Grand Chancellor by the District Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Jamaica.

Bro. Nathan’s long standing service to masonry no doubt influenced his son Tony, himself an outstanding Freemason, along his Masonic career. Bro. Nathan’s contribution to freemasonry in general and Lodge Elgin in particular will be greatly missed and all who had the pleasure of working with him recognized him as a man of principle, versed in all the laws that regulate freemasonry and a man who would speak his mind, though softly and kindly, without reservation. . In the evening of his life, despite failing health, Nathan continued to attend his Lodge which was one of his great loves.

He was in character and nature a dedicated and outstanding individual who embodied the finest principles of Freemasonry. May The Great Architect of The Universe grant him safe lodging, a holy rest and peace at the last forever.
